Micro Detox: every day habits to support your body.

In my last blog I explained all about the toxic burden and everything our body naturally does to cleanse itself every day. Every once in awhile a Detox protocol, such as my Fall into Health Reset, is a great way to reset your system. But other than that forming constructive every day habits will be one of the best ways to elongate the effects of a cleanse. Here are a couple suggestions for “micro-detoxing” or supporting your body in small but effective ways, every day:


  1. Water. Drinking half your weight in ounces of water every day is a sure fire way to support your detox system. Continuing to flush out your kidneys and hydrating every cell in your body is a crucial asset to longevity. 

  2. Avoid excess alcohol. Having a drink or two every once in a while is not a bad thing. However, drinking every day is overwhelming to the liver and the detoxification system. It will bog everything down as your liver tries to filter the alcohol out. Reducing your intake of alcohol is always recommend.

  3. Exercise and sauna. Literally “sweating it out” is another way to assist the body in every day detox. Exercise is not only good for you for longevity and strength, but sweating is another way the body rids itself of toxins. If you have access to a sauna, I suggest 20-30 min 2x a week after exercise to start.

  4. Avoid plastics. Start using glass containers to heat up foods. Drink filtered water out of a stainless steal bottle. Do not drink anything hot out of a Styrofoam cup. These things will leech chemicals into your food and water. Avoid at all cost to support your micro-detoxing. 

  5. Choose organic when possible and eat your greens. Avoiding glyphosate and other chemicals sprayed on non-organic produce will reduce the toxic burden placed on your body. Leafy green veggies are so important for supporting the detox system. They also contain high amounts of fiber which assists with elimination and ridding the body of toxins from the colon.

  6. Avoid chemicals in conventional care products. Think Bath & body Works sprays, lotions, and potions. These conventional products are full of chemicals and hormone disruptors that then also bog down our detoxification system. Look for products that are organic, have no dyes, and use essential oils instead of harsh perfumes.

  7. Get enough sleep. Give your overworked body the rest it needs. 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended to ensure all systems are working to the best of their ability.


All in all it is impossible to avoid all the toxins and chemicals in modern day society. But implementing small lifestyle changes and habits can really help your body and support its amazing detox system. Micro-detoxing every day will ensure that your body is happy and healthy for a very long time. 


Every day detox salad:

3 cups mixed greens

2 cups broccoli, chopped

2 cups red cabbage, shaved

1 cup carrots, shredded

2 cups spinach, chopped

2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds

¼ cup unsweetened dried cranberries

Lemon Apple Cider Vinaigrette:

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

¼ cup lemon juice

1 tablespoon dijon mustard

2 tablespoons honey

1 cup EVOO

Salt and pepper to taste
